US Gambling Traffic Surges as Chumba Casino and DraftKings Lead August 2026 Rankings

17 September 2026

US gambling traffic surged in August 2026, with reports showing higher levels of player engagement and activity across top-ranked sweepstakes casinos and online gaming brands. While former traffic leader Chumba Casino saw a year-over-year demand decline, it remained among the most visited US gambling sites, with its lead widening over rival Crown Coins. Meanwhile, industry giant DraftKings held its place as one of the most trafficked gambling websites, as overall engagement intensified and competition heated up.

According to data analysis firm Optimove, US iGaming players averaged 9.0 activity days in August 2026, the highest point of the past year. Players also set a 12-month high in average deposits, clocking in at $865, about 9% above the trailing average.

But the August activity data also revealed a 12-month low in the average active customer retention rate, which Optimove measured at 65% for the month. Optimove releases the monthly iGaming Pulse report.

Chumba's Market Position

While August marked a strong month for US gambling engagement and accessibility, the latest tracking suggests it was a less lucrative one for Chumba Casino. A September 12, 2026 report by specialty publisher RG.org ranked Chumba second in the US sweepstakes casino market, with 15.13% share in August. Chumba trailed leader Crown Coins by 6.86 points.

The September report figures followed a similar pattern in RG.org's August 12 rankings, which showed Chumba finishing second at 16.69% share, 6.63 points behind Crown Coins. According to RG.org's August 2026 report, Chumba Casino suffered a 29.82% drop in year-over-year August demand. The August 2026 report is available online.

Despite Chumba's decline, the brand remained highly visible and its website continued to drive significant traffic. According to analytics site Similarweb, 99.07% of chumbacasino.com traffic was local.

A July 2026 ranking by e-commerce analytics firm Semrush listed Chumba Casino as the most popular gambling website in the United States, with 29.2 million monthly visits. By August, Semrush reported 30.73 million monthly visits for chumbacasino.com, a gain of more than a million.

Nevertheless, the August figures suggest Chumba Casino's position was receding as strong competition intensified at the top of the US gambling market. RG.org's figures showed the top three US sweepstakes brands controlling 49.77% of search demand in August, with the top two brands mixing it up for leadership.

DraftKings' Performance

On the traffic front, data analytics firm Semrush ranked DraftKings Sportsbook fourth on the most-trafficked gambling websites in the United States for August, with 13.72 million monthly visits.

For comparison, Semrush ranked DraftKings fifth in July, with 13.43 million visits. Earlier in 2026, in January, DraftKings Sportsbook finished third, with 22 million monthly visits, according to Semrush.

By late 2026, DraftKings Sportsbook had established itself among the dominant brands in US online sports betting and gambling, frequently trending as the country's most popular online sportsbook, according to experts.

Market Dynamics

However, gambling experts caution that traffic leadership and search leadership are not identical measures: a website can lead in monthly visits without leading in search demand.

Jared Miller, an iGaming analyst for market intelligence provider Template, said that while a high search volume shows a brand's ability to attract customers, strong traffic measures the brand's ability to keep them.

"Years ago in iGaming, we saw a lot of companies fail to convert the people who searched for them," Miller said. "Clickbait is a big mistake."

Miller said most iGaming companies won't clarify the difference between these measures, preferring to conflate their metrics instead. "In their marketing, they may only show data about search demand, which they are more likely to lead in," Miller said. "By sharing those numbers, the company seems larger, more dominant. Of course, accurate traffic figures don't lie. Traffic analytics measure a company's ability to make a customer stay."

The US gambling market is a lucrative one. It's led by companies like DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM, which frequently trade places as the most popular sportsbooks in the United States, according to a 2025 report by market research firm McKinsey. However, those top brands have yet to consolidate their ownership of the US iGaming market, meaning opportunities remain available for ambitious outfits like software firm Chumba Casino, which emphasized its network effects and said it grew its number of monthly active users by 57% in 2024.
